Neglected by LG administration, Shah recalls sacrifices of Jammu people | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 19: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday recalled the sacrifices of the people of Jammu who played an important role in the total integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the Indian Union. Addressing the 83rd Raising Day of the Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF) at Jammu, Union Home Minister termed Jammu as a “historic town” because residents of this part of the country had laid the foundation for the abrogation of Article 370. Union Home Minister recalled Ek Vidhan, Ek Pradhan, Ek Nishan agitation launched by Praja Parishad under the leadership of Sher-e-Duggar Pandit Prem Nath Dogra in the early 1950s. He also invoked the founder of Bharatiya Jan Sangh, Dr. Shyama Prashad Mukherjee who laid down his life for the total integration of Jammu and Kashmir with Indian Union. Every year people of Jammu observe the martyrdom of activists of Praja Parishad. Praja Parishad activists were killed in police firing during ‘Ek Vidhan, Ek Pardhan and Ek Nishan’ agitation on January 31, 1953 at Jourian Akhnoor which was launched in the early 1950s for “total integration” of J&K with the Indian Union. Under the leadership of Prem Nath Dogra, the Praja Parishad had launched a massive movement against special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Notable Praja Parishad was later merged with Bharatiya Jan Sangh (BJS) and the origin of the present BJP lies in the Jan Sangh. Since 1947 residents of the Jammu region have been struggling to get justice but to no avail. BJP leadership is much aware of the sacrifices of the people of the Jammu region but Babus at the helm of the affairs are hell-bent to demonize and disempower residents of the Jammu region- both politically and economically. During the last one and half years, the incumbent dispensation has taken a number of steps to snatch the livelihood of the people of the Jammu region. |
