DB upholds life-imprisonment of CRPF jawan for killing inspector, 2 others at CM's residence | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 1: A Division Bench of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court comprising Justice Sanjeev Kumar and Justice M A Chowdhary upheld the life-imprisonment of CRPF Jawan Anand Kumar Singh who was involved in killing Inspector and two others in CM's residence. On April 3, 2006, the accused CRPF constable namely Anand Kumar Singh shot dead Inspector Mohan Shyam from his Insas rifle over an old enmity at Chief Minister's residence at Wazarat Road. He also killed two Havaldars namely Joginder Jha and H N Pandey when they tried to nab the accused Jawan. A case was registered at Peer Mitha Police Station under Section 302 RPC and 30 Arms Act. During the course of investigation, the accused CRPF jawan was arrested and on his disclosure weapon of offence and other ammunition, which was issued in his favour by the CRPF, was recovered. After completion of investigation, police presented challan in the court of law. A trial court convicted the accused and awarded life-imprisonment. Against the judgment of trial court, present appeal was filed. The DB headed by Justice Sanjeev Kumar while upholding the life-imprisonment observed that the prosecution in the instant case has proved its case by leading ocular, circumstantial and scientific evidence. The judge observed that the trial court has rightly convicted him and sentenced him to imprisonment for life for committing the murder of three of his colleagues. |
