Months on, JKPDC employees without salaries; Babus unmoved | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
RAMBAN, Apr 1: Aggrieved over non-payment of salaries for the last several months, the employees of Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation (JKPDC) held a strong protest demonstration here at Chanderkote. A large number of employees of JKPDC working in the 900 MW Baglihar Hydro Electric Project, Unit Baglihar, assembled at Chanderkote and staged a protest against the authorities for not releasing their pending salaries. They raised slogans in favour of their demands. “We are demanding release of our pending wages. We are tirelessly working day and night for the project. The project is generating crores of rupees as revenue on a daily basis. But regretfully we are being denied our wages. We have to lodge protests on a regular basis to ensure release of our wages,” one of the protesters said while talking to media persons. “The officials at the corporate office raise certain queries regarding details of the employees including duration of service and other issues as and when a requisition for payment of salaries is sent by the chief office here. What is the need of raising the same queries over and over again when those who had to be paid are the same employees every time. There are no changes or additions then what they want to prove,” he added. He said that their salaries have been pending since long and no one from the JKPDC is bothered about that. “Our families are at the verge of starvation but no official is concerned about that,” he said and demanded release of their pending wages as soon as possible. “If the Corporation fails to redress our genuine issues, we will come on road and also block the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway,” the protesters warned before dispersing. |
