Custodian Deptt spends Rs 1 lakh to construct staircase, unfinished toilet at Lower Mast Garh | Family alleges siphoning of funds, AEE terms accusations baseless | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 2: A family at Lower Mast Garh has alleged that Custodian Department has siphoned the funds that were sanctioned for repairing their house. A woman, whose house was repaired by the Custodian Department said, “We have been living in a Custodian property for the past seventy years. We were informed that Rs 1 lakh has been sanctioned for repairing the house. But the contractor told us that only Rs 70,000 would be spent.” She said, “In Rs 70,000 they demolished the old toilet and built a staircase. They erected four walls of the toilet without finishing it and built a staircase. We have been asking them where the money has been spent. Neither have they provided us the estimate nor the map. I have three daughters and my husband is a heart patient. They kept us without a toilet for nearly 15-days.” The woman said, “We purchased a water tanky, the gate and the pipes on our own. We have to pay the shopkeepers Rs 60,000. We want to ask the Custodian Department is the cost of building an unfinished toilet and a staircase Rs 70,000?” The Assistant Executive Engineer of the department termed the allegations as baseless and said, “We have spent all the money that was sanctioned to repair the property. If the family is not satisfied an independent engineering agency should probe the matter.” |
