‘Use and throw policy’ exposes faulty governance in J&K | Jobless left in lurch, admin turns unforgiving to woes | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 14: Even when Prime Minister Modi is visiting Jammu and Kashmir this month with hopes high that the visit may bring respite from the ongoing bureaucratic rule, the administration here is busy hounding the poor, leaving them in a wretched state of helplessness. The protest against the termination of the services of employees engaged under the Covid Emergency Response Package could be the best example reflecting how the erstwhile state is reeling under distress and lawlessness. On Wednesday, outside the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, NHM personnel continued to protest and raised their voice. The employees said that even when the matter is sub-judice in the court; their services have been terminated by the GMC administration with immediate effect, rendering them unemployed and their families being pushed to the precipice of starvation. During the second wave of Covid, these employees were put on contract in case of emergency. After taking the services of three months, their services were terminated, but in view of their protest, on the instructions of the government, the services of NHM employees were restored for three more months. At present, however, when Covid is almost under control, the services of many of this personnel have been terminated again. However, many of the personnel have gone to court, seeking justice from there. “It is a clear use and throw policy of the government. They have been showing us green pastures for a long. The administration is trying to hoodwink the masses in the country that Jammu and Kashmir is being accorded the best governance. However, the reality is stark and dreadful. The fact is that never ever the erstwhile state was reeling under such distress as is today. There is nothing left for the qualified and skilled youth here. The bureaucrats are enjoying the heydays. That is the only positive development taking place within the power corridors,” says a protesting employee in Jammu. Scores of others added that when the government was desperate to get the state out of the COVID crisis, it pushed us to the forefront, thinking little of our families. “We too jumped into the fire, caring little about the bruises we would get in midst of the flames. We just jumped in. Now, when the COVID crisis are over, the government is sadistically showing us the door, telling us to get out. This is wear and tear or what we call the Use and Throw policy. This is unacceptable,” said a protesting youth. |
