2 militants killed after Jammu CISF bus attack | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 22: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's April 24 visit in Samba, security forces on Friday eliminated two terrorists during a fierce gunfight in Sunjuwan area of Jammu. The terror attack came early morning when a bus ferrying troopers of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was ambushed around 4.25 am. Following which one assistant sub inspector was killed in the ensuing gun battle and around six others were injured. Two terrorists killed in the operation, confirmed Mukesh Singh, ADGP Jammu Zone. He said that one satellite phone, two AK 47 rifles, heavy ammunition have been recovered from encounter site. "We have not yet called off the operation and searches are going on," said the ADGP. "The two terrorists are reportedly of Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit and might have been engaged in fidayeen attack in Jammu ahead of Prime Minister's public rally in Palli, Samba," official sources earlier said. A grenade was lobbed at the bus ferrying the CISF men near Chaddha Camp in Jalalabad area of Sunjuwan. Then the militants opened fire. "The CISF personnel retaliated effectively to the firing and forced them to run away following which the area was cordoned. Two Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) suicide group terrorists were suspected to be hiding in the Jalalabad area adjoining the Sunjwan Brigade camp and Jammu police and other security forces were already on high alert. A team of SOG headed by SP Naresh Singh under the supervision of Jammu SSP Chandan Kohli and DIG Vivek Gupta immediately launched the Cordon And Search Operation along with local SHOs minutes after the attack on the bus. Additional Director General of Police of Jammu Zone Mukesh Singh confirmed to the media one death of a personnel, and said the encounter started as terrorists tried to flee after the attack on the bus when the search party retaliated during the CASO. Trapped terrorists trying to break the cordon opened fire killing the CISF ASI. "The CISF personnel retaliated effectively to the firing on the bus forcing the militants to run away. Then the area was cordoned off and a gun fight began between the holed up militants and the security forces," a CISF official said. The slain ASI has been identified as SP Patel, while those injured include Head Constable Balraj Singh of Jammu police, SPO Sahil Sharma and two jawans of CISF -- Parmod Patra of Odisha and Amir Soran of Assam. All the injured have been shifted to hospital for treatment. The operation is still underway. Jammu Chief Education Officer ordered closure of 10 schools near the encounter site as a precautionary measure. Mobile internet facility in adjoining areas were also snapped, said an official. Modi is scheduled to address a public gathering on Panchayati Raj Day on Saturday. |
