Political parties take dig at PDD for 'power crises' | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 22: With no end to erratic power supply in Jammu and Kashmir, some of the prominent political parties of J&K have been taking dig at the Power Development Department or PDD for alleged "power crises." While the National Conference has been repeatedly issuing statements against the “power crises”, other parties have joined the chorus. The Peoples Conference led by Sajad Gani Lone, who is otherwise seen as close to the BJP, has pulled up the PDD saying “Pervasive power crises never witnessed in JK’s history.” Former legislator and senior Peoples Conference Leader Mansoor Hussian Sohrawardhy has termed the pervasive power outages amid the ongoing Ramazan as “frightening to the core.“ In a statement issued here Mansoor said “The power crises are menacingly looming large in both Jammu as well as in Kashmir with administration playing a proverbial ostrich, caring little about the insurmountable predicament the masses of Jammu and Kashmir have been plunged into.” “Such a situation was never in the modern history of Jammu and Kashmir witnessed when the power cuts are so prolonged and unending. The irony is that the administration has adopted a complete indifferent approach to such a catastrophic situation. There is no accountability anywhere and people do not know where to narrate their ordeal and highlight their plight. This is bizarre, undemocratic and inhuman. The government must understand that it is once a year that the holy month of Ramadan arrives and punishing people during this time is humiliating,” Mansoor said. The National Conference leaders including its spokesperson Sarah Hayat have already been vocal against the PDD. The NC has accused the JK government of putting the people to unwanted inconvenience through the “power crises.” For the last few days the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been witnessing more dark days than before. While Jammu is bearing power cuts in scorching heat in the month of April, in Srinagar power cuts last for over 12 hours. “Electricity was restored in our locality after 12 hours,” said a resident of Pir Bagh. The PDD, however, has been silent over the issue. |
