For safe passage Nau Gran residents demand underpass facility | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Apr 22: Irate over construction of Ring Road in their area due to which the thoroughfare to their village is getting cut, the residents of Nau Gran lodged a strong protest demanding construction of an underpass facility. Scores of locals including males, females and children, the protesting villagers said that they would not let the execution of construction work of the Ring Road in their area until the authorities concerned assure them to provide an underpass facility to avoid road accidents. “The underpass facility in our area will help commuters access the nearby locations easily, without having to cross the road and invite the risk of an accident or use alternate routes which are much longer than the existing passage,” a resident said. “If there is no provision of underpass facility our school going children would suffer the most. Kids have to use alternate paths to and fro schools. The transportation cost in that event would definitely increase. Underpass would cut down commute time,” he added. Villagers alleged that after they made repeated requests to the authorities to construct an underpass in the area it was assured that the facility will be made available. “After agreeing to our demand now the construction company is refusing to construct an underpass along the Ring Road. Due to the high speed of the vehicles that will use the road, local people would find it difficult to cross it and fatal accidents could become a regular feature in the area,” a villager said. “Because of high speed the drivers perhaps would be unable to stop the vehicles in time fearing that they may overturn and so could hit the persons who will cross the road. The pedestrians often fail to gauge the speed of the vehicles and so come in front suddenly only to be hit by the speeding vehicles,” he added. |
