Incomplete bunkers at Panjode village disappoint residents | ‘Can’t take shelter in these structures if Pak resorts to shelling’ | |
Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 22: The bunkers constructed by the Public Works Department at Panjode village in Kanachak sector on the International Border have become a safe haven for snakes and other deadly insects due to these structures being left incomplete by the Public Works Department. Residents of Panjode village while talking to a local news channel said, “The PWD had constructed 27 small bunkers and 13 big bunkers in our area. Only one bunker was completed and others were left incomplete,” they said. Residents said that no doors have been fixed, nor has been any system put in place to drain out water from these bunkers. “These bunkers have turned into a cesspool and a breeding ground for snakes and other deadly creatures. If Pakistan resorts to shelling we won’t be able to take shelter inside these bunkers as these are unfit for humans,” they added. Residents alleged that money spent on construction of these bunkers has been misappropriated. “For construction of a big bunker Rs 8.40 lakhs were sanctioned while for the construction of small bunkers Rs 2.40 lakhs were allotted. The PWD should be held accountable and it needs to complete the work so that in case of emergency people can use these shelters,” they added. |
