BHOPAL/SATNA, Apr 24: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday announced that a sum of Rs 1 crore shall be disbursed as 'Samman Nidhi' to the next of kin of CISF Assistant Sub-Inspector Shankar Prasad Patel who attained martyrdom after eliminating two terrorists while combatting the scourge of insurgency in Jammu on Friday.
Bowing to the officer, Mr Chouhan wrote in social media, "He displayed gallantry of the highest order and fell fighting for the motherland, thereby making the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. A member of the household will be provided government employment. Besides, immortal ASI Patel's statue shall be installed at an appropriate spot and an institution named after him. I salute his deceased parents Shyambai and Ramdas Patel. In this hour of sorrow, the entire state and the government stand alongside the relatives."
The cremation was conducted with full military honours at the officer's native village Naugawan in Satna district. The pyre was lit by son Sanjay. ASI Patel is survived by spouse Lakshmi and two sons - the other being Surendra. Earlier, the final journey witnessed a grief-stricken teeming multitude, including Army personnel. The state dispensation was represented by Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ramkhelawan Patel and the administration by Collector Anurag Verma in addition to SP Dharmvir Singh. Local parliamentarian Ganesh Singh (BJP) was also present.
Late Saturday, the mortal remains were conveyed to Jabalpur divisional headquarters by a special plane. They were then brought by road to Naugawan in Maihar Police Station limits.
