Early Times Report

JAMMU, Apr 26: Allegation that thousands of crores have been spent from the exchequer of the cash-starved Jammu and Kashmir, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday demanded a probe into the government’s expenditure on Sunday rally.
“The publicity-hungry J&K government lacks funds to purchase power to relief some relief to the people in summer but thousands of crores were spent on Palli-Challo rally at the cost of the lives of the residents of J&K”, the PDP Varinder Singh Sonu said while interacting with media persons.
He pointed toward the complete breakdown of power and water supply infrastructure in Jammu province.
“There are allegations that tender for event management was allocated to a non-local firm on very high rates despite the fact that some local firms were agreed to organize the event on lower rates ”, he said and pointed out that the failure of the public address system during the rally has substantiated the allegations of bungling in allocating tender for event management.
While asking the J&K government to make public the total funds spent on this damp squib event, Varinder Singh Sonu cautioned that PDP will not remain a mute spectator to the misdeeds of the administration.
He termed the much-publicized Palli rally as a damp squib and poi

ted out that every section of the society is feeling cheated after the event because nothing concrete has been announced.
“For the coffer of the cash-starved Jammu and Kashmir, hundreds of crores were brazenly spent on the programme just to hoodwink the gullible masses but nothing has been achieved”, Sonu said.
“Every section of the society is disappointed and disheartened after the much-touted Palli Chalo rally for which the Jammu and Kashmir has spent hundreds of crores of rupees”, he said and expressed surprise at how the J&K government has allowed BJP to install its flags and banners in the venue of the programme. “If it was an official function then why BJP flags and banners were allowed to install”, Sonu asked, adding, “If it was a BJP programme then how come the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha along with all government employees were present in the political rally?”.
Sonu, however, said that the J&K government has spent hundreds of crores of rupees on a political rally which was ultimately a direction show.
“Amid scorching heat government employees were forced to attend the programme”, the PDP leader and regretted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has disappointed the people of Jammu and Kashmir by not spelling out any roadmap to programmes of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
