Govt Psychiatric Hospital fails to provide free medicines to patients | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Apr 26: The tall claims of the J&K government of providing free drugs to the patients in government hospitals have fallen flat as the patients visiting Govt Psychiatric Diseases Hospital, Jammu are being denied the free of cost medicines. The doctors at Govt Psychiatric Diseases Hospital, Jammu are growing the hardships of the families having patients with mental disorders by refusing to provide them free medicines and prescribing costly medicines to be bought from the open market. Several patients visiting Government Psychiatric Diseases Hospital Jammu said that they are not getting free medicines and are being forced to purchase them from the open market which is very expensive. Few patients while speaking to Early Times alleged that the doctors in OPD of the hospital prescribe such medicines which are not available in the dispensary of the hospital and the patients have to purchase them from the market at exorbitant prices. “Many patients are making rounds to get the required medicines from the hospital but the doctors are not entertaining their requests. Doctors are asking the patients to buy the medicines from private medical stores. How can the poor families of the patients afford such costly medicines? We are living from hand to mouth,” said a patient. It is pertinent to mention here that mostly poor patients visit government run hospitals and if they were prescribed costly medicines and that too to be purchased from the open market then it would be a great injustice with such patients. Failing to bear the expenses many of them would leave the treatment midway. |
