Srinagar, May 13: A policeman was shot dead by militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday, police said. This is the second killing in Kashmir in less than 24 hours. Police said unarmed constable Riyaz Ahmad Thoker was fired upon at his residence at Gudoora in Pulwama in the morning, leaving him injured. He was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. “We pay rich tributes to the martyr and stand by his family at this critical juncture,” a police tweet said. Soon after the shooting, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a massive search for the attackers. The killing took place a day after a Kashmiri Pandit, Rahul Bhat, was shot dead in his office in Budgam. On Friday, angry Pandits stages protests, raising slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah as well as BJP. |
