Srinagar, May 13: The President of the Hindu Welfare Society of Kashmir, Chunni Lal, on Friday dubbed the targeted killing of Rahul Bhat as an “unfortunate tragedy” and “bad luck” for the Pandit community. “The killing of Rahul Bhat, a Revenue Department official at the Tehsil office in Chadoora in Budgam on Thursday, is an unfortunate tragedy and bad luck for the community,” Lal, who did not migrate from Kashmir, said. Bhat was shot in his Chadoora office yesterday and left him critically injured. He later succumbed to his injuries triggering instant protests. His mortal remains were cremated in Jammu on Friday. Lal said that Kashmiri Pandits were working in the Kashmir Valley just to earn their livelihood for their family but they were being killed. “The government must take steps to stop this inhumane killings of either communities,” he said. “Doing wrong is always wrong…whatever religion, caste... one is not supposed to kill as an innocent”. “It is bad luck for our Kashmir”, Lal added. “Be it a member of a minority or majority community…We are losing a Kashmiri. It should be stopped to keep alive the traditional ‘Kashmiriyat’.” He also condemned the killing of policeman Riyaz Ahmad Thoker by unidentified militants in Pulwama district. |
