Protect KPs working in Kashmir | | | Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha setting up a special cell to address grievances of Kashmiri Pandits employed under the Prime Minister’s package in the Valley is a welcome step. Other decisions like shifting them to secure places and posting them at district headquarters will provide fear stricken KP employees with much needed respite. Terrorists killing Rahul Bhat within his office premises at Chadoora in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district has terrified the KPs working in the Valley. They are demanding security and have dropped enough hints about quitting their jobs if adequate arrangements are not made for their safety and security. The government has woken up to their concerns and has started taking steps to save these poor people from becoming soft targets. After Rahul’s killing Station House Officer Chadoora was attached and many SHOs in Budgam district were transferred. Terrorists targeting innocent people has evoked condemnation from every section of the society in Kashmir. Even the members of Muslim community are deploring the senseless violence. The onus of protecting lives of Kashmiri Pandits working in the Valley lies on the government and helmsmen cannot shy away from their responsibility. It appears there is still a long way to go for Kashmiri Pandits to return to the Valley and breathe freely. They need to be kept in secure zones and settled in separate colonies. Terrorists cannot be allowed to choose soft targets and hit. The security forces have intensified the anti-terror operations and are not sparing any efforts to end the terrorism in the Valley but Pakistan is not giving up and is trying its best to push in ultras into Kashmir to keep the pot boiling. The government will have to walk an extra mile to send a message to Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley that it cares for them and won’t allow terrorists to succeed in their nefarious designs. They have to be assured that no one will be allowed to succeed in forcing them to run away from Kashmir again. Providing security to KPs working in the Valley is not a big issue. It can be managed. Posting them at district headquarters will help them feel secure. Their service issues need to be heard. The need of the hour is to make them feel comfortable. They can’t be left in a lurch. |
