In Cong’s Chintan Shivir, Jammu gets no representation | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 16: Not even a single Congress leader from Jammu was invited to the much-hyped Chintan Shivir of the party held at Udaipur in Rajasthan. The three-day Congress party Chintan Shivir, organized in Udaipur after the gap of nine years, was concluded on Sunday. The Chintan Shivir was attended by 430 leaders but not even a single leader from the Jammu region. Reports said that the incumbent party president of Jammu and Kashmir Ghulam Ahmed Mir along with former Finance Minister Tariq Hamid Karra attended the three-day Shivir. Ghulam Nabi Azad, one of the stalwarts of the party was also present in the Shivir but he is part of the central leadership of the party not a representative from J&K. Highly placed sources list of a couple of leaders from Jammu was also sent to the high command for their participation in their Chintan Shivir but the high command only allowed leaders from Kashmir to attend the event. “Like other political parties, Congress high command is also taking Jammu region for granted”, a senior Congress leader told the Early Times. Wishing anonymity, the leader said that denying representation to Jammu in Chintan Shivir is a clear indication that the high command lacks the vision to deal with the highly sensitive Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Notable Jammu is always a stronghold of the Congress party. It was all due to the contribution from Jammu that Congress became part of the government from 2002 to 2008 and 2008 to 2014. Ghulam Nabi Azad became Chief Minister of J&K in 2005 due to overwhelming support from the Jammu region. |
