Jammu, May 18: The initiative of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, My Youth My Pride, has reached rural and urban belts to tap talent. The players from both rural and urban areas were brought on the same platform by organising competitions in roller hockey and volleyball on Wednesday at the stkating rink at the Maulana Azad Stadium Jammu and Village Lamberi in district Rajouri. A total of 110 young players from the far-flung areas and urban pockets participated in the sports events. The matches in volleyball were played on knockout basis. Six top teams contested for the championship title. “Sports is an exciting and healthy pastime to many initially but if it is really one’s passion, it can be a very rewarding career,” said Nuzhat Gul, Secretary, Sports Council. She added that the efforts of the J&K Sports Council to give impetus to sports and games were proving fruitful. Dr. Zafar Iqbal, Chief Accounts Officer, said the identified players would be trained for participation in the Union Territory and national tournaments. |
