High Command may give big role to Azad in coming J&K assembly polls | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 18: As threats failed to yield any result to bring discipline among warring factions of the party, the Congress high command is likely to give important responsibility to the loyalists of Ghulam Nabi Azad. Highly placed sources said that the Congress high command has realized that without taking Ghulam Nabi Azad into confidence it is difficult rather impossible to bring peace among warring factions in the J&K unit. Secondly, Congress high command has also observed that despite encouraging factionalism in the party, Ghulam Nabi Azad can rejuvenate the party in coming assembly elections so the central leadership is ready to accommodate his loyalists in important positions. During the recently held Chintan Shivar of the Congress party at Udaipur in Rajasthan, the high command has given importance to Ghulam Nabi Azad which is a clear indication that the party has decided not to take any confrontation with the former leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha. Among all leaders of G-23, Azad was the only one who was given importance in the Chintan Shivir. As reported earlier by the Early Times, first time after her appointment as AICC general secretary and incharge of J&K affairs, loyalists of Ghulam Nabi Azad first time met with Rajni Patil to solve differences. With an aim to bring peace within the faction-ridden party unit, loyalists of Ghulam Nabi Azad met with Rajni Patil on May 6. Leaders, who owe their allegiance to Ghulam Nabi Azad, were adamant in their demand that the incumbent Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir should be removed from the post. They reiterated their demand that Azad should be declared as a chief ministerial candidate in the coming assembly elections in J&K. They argued that without handing over command to Azad it was not possible for them to work with the present leadership. |
