Police analyzing CCTV footage to trace attackers | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 18: J&K police is analyzing the CCTV footage to trace the bike and its owner that was used by the two suspected militants to carry out a grenade attack inside the newly opened wine shop in Jammu Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday evening. Police said the CCTV footage is crucial to crack the case. An employee at a wine shop was killed and three of his colleagues were injured in a grenade blast at a wine shop in the high-security street of Baramulla town. A purported CCTV footage showed two suspected militants escaping on a motorbike after carrying out the attack. The one sitting on the rear seat wore a burqa and the two escaped on a motorbike towards Dewan Bagh. Soon after the blast last evening, police said that two militants riding on a bike stopped near the newly opened wine shop at Dewan Bagh Baramulla. “The pillion rider wearing a Burka walked to the window of the said wine shop and dropped a grenade inside the said wine shop through the port hole window and thereafter fled away on the bike from the spot,” a police spokesman had said. The blast took place in the high security area which housed the offices and residences of Deputy Inspector General of Police in north Kashmir and Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla. The residence of a General Officer Commanding 19 Infantry division is also located in the same area. The street is fortified and under CCTV surveillance. "The CCTV footage of the area from various spots is crucial to trace the attackers and those who helped them," a police officer said. The attack has set the alarm bells ringing among the security forces as the Baramulla town which has largely been peaceful over the last few years. Meanwhile a day after the attack, a search operation was launched in some areas of Baramulla to try to trace the attackers. |
