Srinagar, May 20: A Rural Development Department (RDD) employee was arrested with heroin worth crores of rupees in the border district of Uri on Friday. Police said during a routine checking by the joint team of Police and Army on Uri Highway in north Kashmir's Baramulla district, 10 packets of narcotics weighing 10 kg were recovered from a vehicle. The vehicle was being driven by one Mohammad Zahid Shah Geelani of Basgran Uri, an RDD employee, who has been arrested, they added. Preliminary investigations revealed that the recovered narcotics were heroin, which were worth around Rs 20 crore in the international market. Police have registered a case and investigations were underway. |
