Activities on environment awareness concluded at GDC Udhampur

JAMMU, June 5: A multiple activities related to spread awareness regarding environment conservation to commemorate World Environment Day 2022 concluded at Govt. Degree College (Boys) Udhampur today. Rajni Sharma, Sub Judge and Secretary, District Legal Services Authority Udhampur was the chief guest on the occasion while Shaweta Jandial IFS, Divisional forest Officer Udhampur was the Guest of Honor on the occasion. Whole series of activities was carried out under the patronage of principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kr.Gupta. These activities include intra college symposium, poster making competition, legal expert lecture on environment related union and state legislations, plantation drive and cleanliness drive to make the campus polythene and wrapper free. The topic of the symposium 'Only One Earth' and sustainable living in which many students including NCC Girls cadets namely Cdt. Divyanshi, Cdt.Diksha, Cdt. Sandya and Cdt.Khushi made their presentations and threw light on the importance of conservation of environment. Department of Botany and NCC Girls Unit of the college organized these activities in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority Udhampur and State Forest Divistion Udhampur. In poster making competition on the theme of Environment Day 2022 Diksha got first prize while Savita and Shikha were adjudged as winner of 2nd and 3rd prize respectively. Earlier the program began with the plantation of saplings of some avenue and medicinal trees like Neem, Willow, Arjuna, Jamun, Thuja in the campus by the dignitaries, staf of Botany Department and NCC volunteers. Prof. Romesh Kr. Atri Head Department of Botany presented the formal welcome address in the conference hall and spoke on the genesis and importance of the Environment Day. Akhil Dubey, Legal Expert from District legal Services Authority Udhampur made detailed presentation on Environment related legislations. Refering to the constitution of India, he said that Article 51 A (g) which deals with the fundamental duties of the citizens emphasizes that protecting our environment is our fundamental duties. Over one hundred students of the Botany Department and NCC Girls unit took part in these activities. Naresh Kumar BFO, coordinated the plantation drive. The series of events concluded today with cleaniliness drive for making Campus Poythene free. Prominent among others who attended the Program include Prof, B.L. Thakur HoD Education, Prof. G.R. Verma, Dr. Rozy Bamba, Prof. Jawaid Sarver, Dr. Swarn Singh, Dr. Vandna Mazal, Rajneesh Sharma and Rajeev Gupta and various other officers and officials from DLSA and Forest Department. Capt. Shivani Sharma ANO NCC GDC Udhampur coordinated the event and proposed the formal vote of thanks while Cadt. Khushi anchored the proccedings of the event.
