Mainstream parties in Kashmir not allowed to protest against minority killings: Mehbooba Mufti | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 5: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday alleged that the mainstream parties in Kashmir were not allowed to hold protests against the minority killings. Kashmir valley is witnessing targeted killings and according to officials, this year 12 civilians, mostly minorities, non locals and Panchayati Raj institutions members have been shot dead in a series of targeted attacks. Nearly a dozen mostly non local workers have also been wounded in targeted attacks. The killings evoked large scale protests by the members of the minority community and witnessed widespread condemnation by the people of Jammu and Kashmir and political leaders. The former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir said “ironical that we the mainstream parties in Kashmir weren’t allowed to hold protests against minority killings’ ‘. “Could it be attributed to the Government of India’s nervousness about the fragility of normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir”, she questioned. Mehbooba Mufti was commenting on the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who was supposed to address Aam Aadmi Party’s protest rally against the centre over targeted killings of Kashmiri Pandits. “Ironical that we the mainstream parties in Kashmir weren’t allowed to hold protests against minority killings. Could it be attributed to GOIs nervousness about the fragility of normalcy in J&K? Too fragile to withstand a peaceful protest?”, Mehbooba Mufti said in a tweet. |
