Early Times Report JAMMU, June 5: The Departments of Biotechnology and Home Science of Govt. Degree College Kathua organized activities focused on protection of nature and environment on World Environment Day. In the morning, the Green Pledge to the earth for which we live and all of Her inhabitants was taken. Principal, GDC Kathua, Professor Sumanesh Jasrotia was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He along with the senior faculty members of the college Prof. Raj Kiran Sharma, Prof. Jasvinder Singh, Prof. Rakesh Singh, Dr. Pankaj Gupta, Prof. Neha Mahajan, Prof. Vishav Deepika, Dr. Archana Bhatt, Dr. Nitu Sharma, Parveen Kumar and students participated in the plantation drive of medicinal plants. Saplings of medicinal plants such as Neem, Tulsi, Bael, Giloy, Rudraksh, Aloevera, Falsa, Amla, were planted in the Lawn of the Departments. Professor Sumanesh Jasrotia, Principal, GDC Kathua, in his deliberations, delivered the environmental day message by pinpointing the importance of plants in maintaining ecological equilibrium. He said that we need to be friendly to our nature and the change begins with each of us. Rethink to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and care for Nature and the Environment. He appreciated the initiative of students and staff of Department of Biotechnology and Home Science. Prof. Neha Mahajan, Head Department of Biotechnology, briefed that these Medicinal plants are considered as a rich resources of ingredients which can be used in drug development. Moreover, some plants are considered as important source of nutrition and as a result of that they are recommended for their therapeutic values. The whole event was organized under the overall supervision of Principal, Prof. Sumanesh Jasrotia and by the active participation of Prof. Neha Mahajan, Prof. Vishav Deepika, Dr. Archana Bhatt, Dr. Nitu Sharma, Dr. Jogbinder Singh & Prof. Kaurab Singh. |
