GDC Hiranagar organises orientation workshop | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 12: An Orientation Workshop in Anticipation of the Incoming International Yoga Day 2022 Organised at Govt. GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar. In order to celebrate the spirit of Yoga and as a preparatory workshop for International Yoga Day 2022 Government Girdari Lal Dogra Memorial Degree College Hiranagar organized a Yoga workshop "DO YOG STAY HEALTHY". The workshop was organised under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, by the Department of Sports and Physical Education in collaboration with NSS unit. The workshop was held at the college multipurpose hall. Around 100 students and faculty members of the college participated enthusiastically in the Yoga workshop. Prof. (Dr.) Pragya Khanna, Principal of the college inaugurated the workshop by illuminating the traditional lamp and offering flowers to the Goddess Sarswati. She deliberated on the concept of yoga and said that "Yoga" means an intimate union of human soul with God. Yoga is an art and a skill and takes into purview the mind, the body and the soul to reach to the ultimate bliss. She also highlighted the importance of yoga for well-being and also said that practising yoga is not only a great stress reliever, but also a way to ease symptoms of anxiety and depression. By transferring focus and attention to the body and breath, yoga can help control temper and anxiety and also relieves one from physical tension. The Yoga workshop was conducted by Sh. Mukesh Sharma, NIS Qualified Coach and treasure Jammu & Kashmir yoga association alongwith one of his apprentice named . He described that an asana is a body posture that is performed to benefit the health and mind. Asanas essentially work to lubricate the muscles, joints, ligaments and other parts of the body. They further help to increase circulation and flexibility. Asanas also help alleviate the internal body health as different asanas work on different internal parts of the body. So if somebody has any health condition, that person can look for a relevant asana to practice to help take care of the ailment. The asanas on which he provided a detailed training were ardha chakrsana (half wheel osture), tadasana (palm tree pose) trikonasana (triangle posture), bhujangaasana, garudasana (eagle pose), dhanurasana (bow posture) ardha halasana (half plough pose), sarvangasana (shoulder stand), halasana (plough pose) chakrasana (wheel posture) and makaraasana. The formal proceeding was carried out by Vikram Singh, Physical Director of the College. The organisers of the workshop comprised of Prof Rakesh Kumar PO NSS, Dr. Arun Kumar, Head Department of Sociology, Dr. Bharat Bhushan, Head Department of Music and Dr. Mukesh Kumar, Assistant Professor Music. The event was also witnessed by Prof. Shujaut Khan Co-ordinator IQAC and Head Depaartment of Computer Sciences, Prof. Gurdyal Head Department of Geography, Dr. Davinder Kaur, Dt. Rajesh Sharma, Prof. Ajay Kumar, Prof. Neha Bhagat, Prof. Manjot Singh, Prof. Kamlesh Bala, and other teaching and non-teaching staff members including local fund employees. The event was planned and executed under the able-guidance and support of Dr. Pragya Khanna, Principal of the college who is very enthusiastic for the overall development of the college and sports in particular.
