Police officer, counterpart to face action in Gujarat conman case | | | Sanjay Pandita
Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 8: A Jammu and Kashmir Police officer of the rank of Senior Superintendent of Police and his counterpart from the civil administration are likely to face action in the Gujarat conman Kiren Patel case. Sources said the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, VK Bhuduria, who is probing the case has got “credible inputs” that the said police officer had granted “Z-Plus” security cover to the conman during his multiple trips to the valley in violation of the norms. The police officer may be the first to face action in the conman case while more officials are apprehended to fall in the line. Sources said as the police official in league with his counterpart from civil administration, who heads a district in south Kashmir, had been helping the said official in violation of norms. Sources said as a result of conversation between the two, the security was granted to Patel in violation of norms. “Usually there’s a security protocol grid… Requisition for security and the type of security for anyone from the Prime Minister’s Office has to come through relevant head and through a formal communication. But here in this case, there was no formal communication and everything was seemingly done on verbal orders which is breach of protocol,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity. He said though the inquiry was in preliminary stage it was most likely that it would proceed on similar lines. “See there’s no written requisition from any proper government quarter for the grant of security to him (conman) so the prima facie suggests negligence that he was granted the security out of the way,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity. It’s pertinent to mention that following hue and cry over the grant of security to the conman, the Jammu and Kashmir government felt the need to fix responsibility over alleged lapse on the part of those in the administration. Subsequently Bhiduria was appointed as the inquiry officer in the case and is most likely to submit his report before the government in coming days. Meanwhile as already reported, Patel who was arrested in Srinagar on March 3 was handed over to the Gujarat police on April 6 for further inquiry. |
