NC shares picture of Sheikh Abdullah-Gani Lone watching football together, BJP asks why | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 13: In a development that has triggered a debate in some circles, the National Conference has shared an old picture wherein the then Chief Minister and NC founder, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah is seen watching a football event with Peoples Conference, founder, Abdul Gani Lone sitting next to him in 1970s brining to light old relations between the two parties. “From the Nawai Subh archives. Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah watching Santosh Trophy Match in 1978 at Srinagar,” the NC posted on its official social media handle. The man sitting on the left of Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah is Gani Lone as the two watch the historic football match among crowds. Its pertinent to mention that the Santosh Trophy was held in Kashmir for the first time that year with teams from across the country having attended the event. The picture has triggered a debate in the political circles in particular with many talking about the yesteryear relations between the National Conference and the Peoples Conference. The Bharatiya Janta Party asked if the NC had shared the picture to show chances of revival of alliance between the two parties. “Is it a message ? That @OmarAbdullah and @sajadlone are going to do a future alliance ? By posting a 45 year old picture on their official Twitter handle in which late Sheikh Abdullah is sitting with Late Gani Lone sahib ????,” a BJP leader from Kashmir asked. A man reacted how would youth of this era know the reality of the picture as the younger generation doesn’t recognize most of the faces in the picture and that politics has changed a lot since. The picture has come to fore when the local parties have been demanding holding of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. It’s pertinent to mention that that Assembly elections are pending in Kashmir since 2018 when the then Peoples Democratic Party- Bharatiya Janta Party alliance collapsed. Observers, however, said the matter was being blown out of proportions. “This is an archival picture where scores of faces can be seen and one doesn’t know why BJP is trying it blow a sporting event out of proportions,” said a political analyst close to the National Conference. |
