Biodiversity, comprising an incredible array of life forms on our planet, is a vital pillar of sustainable development. It encompasses plants, animals, microorganisms, and their intricate interactions within ecosystems. Our planet's biodiversity not only provides essential resources such as food, medicine, clean water, and air, but also offers aesthetic, cultural, and recreational values. However, biodiversity loss has reached alarming levels due to human activities. Habitat destruction, climate change, pollution, overexploitation of natural resources, and invasive species pose significant threats to ecosystems worldwide. This trend not only compromises the well-being of countless species but also jeopardizes our own survival and prosperity. During the event, Nazir Benazir, Chairman of the National Society for Protection of Water Resources, Wetlands, and Forests, highlighted the significance of biodiversity and Mission Life. The Chairman of Green Valley Public School emphasized the importance of prioritizing biodiversity conservation, promoting sustainable land and wetland management practices, and engaging in initiatives that ensure the sustainable use of natural resources. Mohammed Lateef Bhat, DFO Research Forest Division Srinagar JKFRI, emphasized that World Biodiversity Day serves as a reminder of our interconnectedness and the responsibility we hold for the fate of our planet. Taking immediate action to protect biodiversity will secure a sustainable future for ourselves and future generations.
