KVK, Reasi Promotes Natural Farming among Farmers | | | Early Times Report
Reasi, June 11: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies Jammu (SKUAST-J) is promoting and educating the farmers on natural farming. Sr. Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr.Banarsi Lal said that Reasi district of J&K has an immense potential in natural farming and the farmers can produce high quality farm products without synthetic pesticides and herbicides. He added that natural agricultural farm produce is highly beneficial to both human health and to the health of both land and ecosystem. He added that it is easy for the farmers to adopt the natural farming as already they are utilizing most of the natural resources and inputs for farming from their own fields. He informed that natural farming helps to preserve the ecology and biodiversity. He narrated that in natural farming there is no need to produce agro-inputs from outside and farmers can utilize their own products in their crops to produce the quality food. He added that natural farming is a promising mean to reduce the cost of cultivation and increase the farm income of the farmers. He said that by the adoption on natural farming farmers can generate more farm income and employment with minimum or no input cost. He further said that the KVK is demonstrating and educating the farmers on the four pillars of natural farming such as the preparation of Jeevamrit and Beejamrit and also guiding on the practices of whapasa (moisture) and Acchadana (mulching) required for the natural farming. He informed that Jeevamrit is a rich source of bacteria that fixe nitrogen and solubilize phosphorus, potassium and other micronutrients. He expressed that Whapasa aids in reducing the crop water requirements. He expressed that for a healthy society, quality food is required and natural farming can play the crucial role for the production of quality food. By observing the successful results of natural farmers, many new farmers are showing keen interest towards natural farming. |
