Early Times Report JAMMU, July 15: The Director of Agriculture, K.K. Sharma, inaugurated a one-day training program on Seed Certification through the Seed Traceability, Authentication, and Holistic Inventory (SATHI) Portal at Kisan Kendra Jammu today. The ceremony began with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp. During his keynote address, the Director of Agriculture emphasized the significance of healthy seeds in achieving good crop production. He stressed the importance of conducting timely inspections, sampling, testing, and adhering to all norms of online seed certification by the Seed Certification Agency. The Director discussed the various levels and stages of seed production, including Nuclear, Breeder, Foundation, and Certified seed. He also advised the production of reliable level seeds for niche crops through offline methods. Dr. Niladhari B. Mohanty, Joint Director (IT) of NIC, Odisha, conducted the technical session, providing a detailed explanation of the SATHI portal's functionalities. The session covered aspects such as registration of seed growers, inspections, verification, sampling, and laboratory testing of seeds. Practical training was also conducted to enhance the trainees' hands-on experience. In his welcome address, the Joint Director (Extension) of Jammu provided an overview of the seed certification scenario in Jammu and Kashmir. The program was attended by the Joint Director (Inputs), Joint Director (SLUB/Farms), Joint Director (Extension), and representatives from various Seed Certification Agencies, including Doda, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, Reasi, Udhampur, and Ramban. The Divisional Seed Officer of Jammu, Prem Singh Manhas, expressed gratitude in the vote of thanks, while the proceedings of the program were conducted by Programme Officer Rajeev Katoch. The training program aimed to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively utilize the SATHI portal for seed certification processes. |
