BJP readies for ULB polls, holds high level meet | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 15: The Bharatiya Janta Party has intensified its preparedness for the upcoming Urban Local Body polls expected in the coming months, with the top leadership holding a high level meeting. Sources said the BJP’s National General Secretary Incharge Jammu and Kashmir, Tarun Chugh and General Secretary, Ashok Koul held a meeting in Srinagar to review the preparedness even as the leadership was told that they are ready. Sources said in the meeting that lasted around two hours, the party cadres were told that they don’t need to be prepared for the ULB polls alone but also for the “bigger polls.” Sources said Chugh told the meeting that it was crucial for the party cadres to have a “robust organizational structure in place”. Chugh said only the strong organizational structure coupled with the peoples support will “provide a solid foundation for success in electoral campaigns.” Sources said the Chug told the meeting that the party has ground inputs that the BJP would “emerge victorious in all the upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir.” Sources said Chug and Ashok were of the opinion that the “model of vikas” as envisioned by New Delhi for Jammu and Kashmir would essentially help the party to win “all elections with thumping majority.” While the five-year term of the ULB will complete in October-November 23, the fresh polls are likely to be held by autumn of this year somewhere close to September. As already reported, the issue of ULB polls was discussed by the Jammu and Kashmir government with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during his recent two-day visit and that the polls could be held “a bit early.” Sources said Shah is keen to see that the polls are held in time for the deliverance of good governance in Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP seems to be working on the same lines. Pertinently, the last ULB polls in Jammu & Kashmir were held in October 2018 when the erstwhile state was under Governor’s rule. The polls were formally boycotted by National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party but both the parties were accused of fielding proxy candidates. |
