Chamber of Commerce & Industry urges resolution amid Sarore Toll Plaza protest | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 22: An urgent meeting of the Office Bearers and Senior Members of the Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCI) was convened at the Chamber House under the leadership of President Arun Gupta. The gathering vehemently criticized the administration's enforcement of section 144 and detainment of activists from Yuva Rajput Sabha during their peaceful protest to remove the Sarore Toll Plaza on the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway. The meeting underscored the fundamental right of every citizen to engage in peaceful and democratic protests. The Chamber had previously raised concerns over the toll tax being collected at Sarore and had requested authorities to suspend it until the damaged Tarnah Nalah bridge on the National Highway is fully restored. The diversion of traffic has led to increased transportation costs and delays in the delivery of goods, affecting the transporters. CCI firmly supports open dialogue among stakeholders and encourages constructive conversations between concerned authorities and stakeholders to find a resolution that respects citizen rights while ensuring the efficient functioning of public infrastructure. The Chamber of Commerce & Industry appealed to the LG Administration to promptly release the detained activists of Yuva Rajput Sabha and suspend the toll plaza until the National Highway is fully constructed and operational. Present at the meeting were Prithvi Raj Gupta, Shiv Partap Gupta, Ravinder Goel, Ravinder Sawhney, Jagdish Langer, Anil Gupta (Sr. Vice President CCI), Rajeev Gupta (Jr. Vice President CCI), Manish Gupta (Secretary General CCI), Rajesh Gupta (Secretary CCI), Rajesh Gupta (Treasurer), and others who emphasized the importance of addressing citizen concerns and working towards a balanced solution. |
