NHAI officer rules out giving any concession on toll | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 22: Amid protests by different sections of the society against the Sarore toll plaza, the Regional Officer of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) J&K P Siva Shanker ruled out giving any concessions to the people. P Siva Shanker made it clear the toll has been charged as per the rules and regulations of the National Highway Authority of India. He asserted that toll is charged from commuters to provide better roads and other facilities. He further said that there is no reason to stop charges of toll from Sarore toll plaza. Although Union Minister Nitin Jairam Gadkari has announced on the floor of the Parliament that a minimum distance between two toll plazas should not less then 60 kilometres, the Regional Officer of NHIA quoted some other provisions of the rules to defend installing two tolls at Sarore and Ban. Important to mention here that Nitin Gadkari while replying to a question in the Parliament on 06-02-2020 as per Rule 8(2) of the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008 – “Any other fee plaza on same section of national highway and in the same direction shall not be established within a distance of sixty kilometers. He further stated that user fee is collected for use of the section of National Highway at specified rates mentioned in respective fee notifications published as per applicable National Highways Fee Rules. To offer seamless movement and save time at user fee plazas on National Highways, Government has a mandate to convert all lanes of user fee plazas as exclusive FASTag lanes except one hybrid lane on each direction. As such, there is no loss of money and time. |
