Twist in the tale: NC-Cong alliance for Kargil Council poll ends up in fiasco | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 22: The breaking of the pre-poll alliance between the National Conference and Congress for the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil elections raised many eyebrows because this alliance was announced with consultations with the top leadership of both parties. Highly placed sources of leadership for both parties at Kargil were not happy with the decision of allying due to their competition in the mountainous region. “Despite attending all meetings of the opposition parties at the national level, the National Conference leadership is also double-minded over openly working with Congress”, sources said and added that one aspect of breaking the alliance with Congress was to keep the BJP leadership in good humour. Although the picture would be cleared only after August 26, which is the last date for the withdrawal of nomination papers, one thing is clear the Kargil Council is going to witness a friendly contest between Congress and National Conference. The process filling of the nominations was started on August 16, 2023. Prospective candidates will have until August 23, 2023, to submit their nominations. Subsequently, the scrutiny of nominations will take place on August 24, followed by the last date for the withdrawal of nominations on August 26, 2023. As far as the Congress is concerned party is also facing anger as a section of party leaders have opposed alliance with the National Conference. In most of Kargil, the real fight for the LAHDC Kargil elections was always between Congress and the National Conference. The presence of other political parties is confined only to a few pockets so many leaders are not happy with the decision to enter into an alliance with NC. |
