Has Omar sidelined Dr Farooq ? | Father misses party conventions, son says he is ‘unwell’ | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 27: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah has apparently taken charge from his father and NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah. An observer while talking to Early Times said, “Omar has become politically very active during the past few weeks. He has been addressing the NC conventions in different parts of Kashmir. It appears that he has sidelined his father and is out to send a message that his party is in no mood to forge alliance with any political party, especially People’s Democratic Party.” He said, “Dr Farooq Abdullah on many occasions has shown that he is not averse to joining hands with the PDP but Omar has been treading a completely opposite path.” Replying to a query of a reporter about Dr Farooq Abdullah’s absence from party conventions, Omar said, “Farooq Sahib is unwell.” An analyst said, “It’s an open secret that Omar from day one has opposed any alliance with PDP. When Peoples’ Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) was formed, Omar silently kept away. But his father (Dr Farooq) always exhibited his keenness to take PDP along.” He said, “During the recent NC conventions party leaders led by Omar have dropped enough hints to declare that they are in no mood to contest Lok Sabha or any other polls in alliance with the PDP and they want to go alone.” Pertinently, Omar Abdullah and other NC leaders in their recent speeches blamed PDP for J&K losing its special status and statehood. A few second rung PDP leaders reacted in a subdued manner by terming NC as a “power hungry party” and claiming that “NC’s objective always has been power.” |
