Industrial exposure visit of NIT Jalandhar students organised

JAMMU, Mar 6: Today, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office organized an exposure visit for Mechanical Engineering Department standard club students of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology Jalandhar at M/s Kalsi Metal Works Pvt. Ltd. Jalandhar. The objective of the visit was to make students quality-conscious by giving them exposure to a BIS-certified manufacturing unit.
During the visit students visited industry and were apprised of the role of BIS in protecting the rights of consumers through standards and conformity assessment. The ISI Mark Scheme provides a third-party guarantee of product quality, safety, and reliability to consumers. The processes of Standard Formulation, Product Certification, Hallmarking, System Certification, Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme, Compulsory Registration Scheme and Testing & Calibration Services were explained to the students. The students also learned to download the Indian Standards through the BIS e-portal, 'Know Your Standards'.
Later, students visited M/s Kalsi Metals Jalandhar, where the borewell, submersible motor pumps and monoblock pumps manufacturing was processed and quality testing was shown and explained as per IS 10805. The Manager of the firm has explained the various products being manufactured at their factory. At the event Ashish Dwivedi, Standard Promotion Officer, BIS-JKBO also presented and explained the various ISI mark requirements. Ashish has also explained the procedure for the licence and quality check being done by BIS. Jitendra mechanical engineer explained manufacturing and testing processes of borewell and submersible motor pumps. 44 mechanical engineering dept. Standard Club students were visited to industry in guidance of Assistant Professor Dr. Harpreet Singh and Dr. Ravi Kant Ravi of NIT Jalandhar. They showed keen interest in BIS activities. They appreciated the BIS initiative in organizing such exposure visits.
