Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 6: Even as Congress leadership is trying to rope in former minister Choudhary Lal Singh to contest the election on the Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat, the chairman of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) Ghulam Nabi Azad spoiled the chances of the Grand-Old-Party by announcing candidate on this seat.
On Wednesday Azad announced to field one of the mass-base leaders of the Ghulam Mohammad Saroori on the Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat where the BJP has already announced to repeat its two-time winner and Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh.
“Though it is not decided yet, I want to field the party’s senior leader and four-times MLA Ghulam Mohammad Saroori from the Udhampur Parliamentary constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls 2024”, Azad said but added that the final decision will take party high command on it.
Azad described Saroori as the ‘right choice’ and one of the most active leaders from the region for the Udhampur-Doda Parliamentary constituency.

Azad has spoiled the gameplan of the Congress on this seat where the party is already on a sticky wicket.
Congress leadership has realized importance of Azad and his supporters in the erstwhile Doda district
seat where the party is already on a sticky wicket.
Saroori is one of the mass base leaders of the party who has won three successive elections in 2002, 2008, and 2014 polls.
Sources said that during the last couple of months, Congress leadership has realized the importance of Ghulam Nabi Azad and his supporters in the erstwhile Doda district comprising Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban districts.
As reported earlier, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Vikar Rasool Wani is trying to manage the party’s mandate for Choudhary Lal Singh in Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat to give a tough fight to the BJP’s strong candidate and two-time Lok Sabha member Dr. Jitendra Singh.
As of now, the Udhampur-Doda and Jammu-Reasi Parliamentary segments appear to be a cakewalk for the BJP keeping in view the performance of both the sitting MPs and the prevailing wave of the party on these two Lok Sabha seats.
Sources said that Vikar Rasool Wani has given a clear message to the Choudhary Lal Singh is the only leader in the Kathua-Udhampur-Doda belt who has the potential to give a tough fight to BJP on this seat.
