Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 24: The Division of Livestock Production Management, SKUAST-Jammu, organized a Brainstorming Session on "Livestock and Poultry Production in Changing Climate: Threats, Challenges, and Mitigation Strategies" at R.S. Pura Campus. The event brought together eminent scientists, veterinary experts, students, and researchers to discuss sustainable solutions for addressing the impact of climate change on livestock and poultry production. Dr. Asma Khan, convenor of the session, emphasized the importance of such platforms for knowledge exchange and collaboration to build a sustainable and resilient livestock sector. Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Registrar, Bihar Animal Science University, highlighted the challenges posed by rising temperatures, heat stress, and unpredictable weather patterns. He stressed the need for heat stress management, climate-smart feed and water strategies, and genetic improvement programs to breed climate-resilient livestock. The session was chaired by Dr. Rajesh Katoch, Dean, FVSc & AH, SKUAST-Jammu, and co-chaired by Dr. Jaswinder Soodan, a leading expert in livestock health management. A dynamic panel discussion featuring experts Dr. R.K. Sharma, Dr. Anish Yadav, Dr. Jonali Devi, Dr. Neelesh Sharma, Dr. Pankaj Goswami, and Dr. Dibyendu Chakraborty explored practical solutions for climate-resilient livestock and poultry production. Key recommendations included policy-level interventions for conserving and breeding indigenous climate-resilient breeds, nutrigenomics-based feeding strategies, and farmer-centric extension programs for climate-smart farming practices.
