Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 28: In a major boost to connectivity and tourism in Jammu and Kashmir, the Jammu Division of the Northern Railway is set to launch the inaugural Vande Bharat special train service between Jammu and Srinagar on April 30.
The inaugural service, Train No. 02601, will mark the introduction of the semi-high-speed Vande Bharat Express on this strategically significant route, enhancing seamless travel across the region’s challenging terrain.
The 20-coach train will cover a distance of 267 kilometres during its maiden run, offering passengers a faster, more comfortable, and modern travel experience. Ahead of the launch, a successful trial run was conducted on April 28 between Jammu and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to assess operational readiness.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal said the train has been developed using indigenous technology and is equipped with state-of-the-art features, including the Kavach safety system, GPS-based passenger information systems, and ergonomically designed rotating seats.
“This service will significantly reduce travel time while providing a world-class experience to passengers. It is also expected to give a major boost to tourism and the local economy,” he said.
The introduction of the Vande Bharat service between Jammu and Srinagar is being seen as a milestone in improving rail connectivity in the Union Territory, particularly in linking the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country through modern rail infrastructure.
