Department of English, CUJ hosts "Commemorating the Writers' Series: On William Shakespeare"

JAMMU, Apr 29: The Department of English, Central University of Jammu under the leadership of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain, today organized a literary event titled "Commemorating the Writers' Series: On William Shakespeare". The programme commenced with ceremonial lamp lighting by the Dean, Prof. Vandana Sharma, and the Head of the Department, Dr. K. Rajesh, along with faculty members. Students of B.A. and M.A., along with research scholars, presented a vibrant drama performance, the first segment of which showcased iconic scenes from plays of William Shakespeare. The second segment featured a comparative presentation of Abhijnanasakuntalam by Kalidasa and Romeo and Juliet, highlighting Eastern and Western perspectives on love and their cultural nuances. The performances reflected creativity, critical insight, and the spirit of performative learning, and the event witnessed enthusiastic participation and was well received by the audience. In their remarks, the Dean and the Head of the Department appreciated the students' efforts and emphasized the continued relevance of classical literature, and the programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the convener, Dr. Neena Gupta Vij.
