Early Times Report
Jammu, June 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to create history on June 9 by becoming India's longest-serving elected Prime Minister, surpassing the record held by the country's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. With the completion of 12 years and 15 days in office as an elected Prime Minister, Modi will overtake Nehru's tenure of 12 years and 14 days, marking a significant milestone in India's political history. The achievement comes less than a year after Modi secured a third consecutive term in office following the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, becoming only the second Prime Minister after Nehru to lead the country for three successive terms. According to party sources, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is planning to mark the occasion, and a meeting of NDA Chief Ministers has been convened to commemorate the historic milestone. The gathering is expected to review governance initiatives, discuss developmental priorities, and celebrate the Prime Minister's record-breaking tenure. Since assuming office on May 26, 2014, Narendra Modi has emerged as one of the most influential political leaders in contemporary India. Over the past 12 years, his government has overseen major policy initiatives, including economic reforms, large-scale infrastructure development, expansion of welfare schemes, digital governance initiatives, and efforts aimed at enhancing India's global profile. Apart from his tenure as Prime Minister, Modi has also had a long career in public office. Having earlier served as Chief Minister of Gujarat for more than 12 years before moving to New Delhi, he has spent over 9,000 days in public office, making him one of the longest-serving elected leaders in the country's history. Political observers view the upcoming milestone as a reflection of Modi's sustained electoral appeal and his dominant position in Indian politics over the past decade. Under his leadership, the BJP has expanded its political footprint across the country and emerged as the central force in national politics. As June 9 approaches, BJP leaders and NDA constituents are preparing to celebrate the landmark occasion, which will place Narendra Modi at the top of the list of India's longest-serving elected Prime Ministers. |
