Early Times Report

Srinagar, Aug 14: Security forces today removed several Pakistani flags while some could still be seen on 4G mobile towers in Kashmir valley, including Srinagar, where strict curfew restrictions remained in force for the second successive day today. Security forces, including state police, removed several Pakistani flags atop 4G mobile towers and other structures at several places in Shehar-e-Khas (SeK) and downtown, including Rainawari and Sakidafar.
Meanwhile, Pakistani flags could also be seen hoisted on 4G mobile towers in uptown of Batamaloo, despite strict curfew imposed in the area. Defying curfew restrictions, people also hoisted Pakistani flags at several places in the apple township of Sopore in north Kashmir district of Baramulla. Reports of raising of flags were coming in from some other parts of the Valley as well. Strict curfew remained in force in entire Srinagar to prevent people from marching towards Lal Chowk following a referendum march called by both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), spearheading the agitation since July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani and two other militants were killed in an encounter in Anantnag. All roads leading to historic Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the summer capital, have been closed to foil two-day Referendum March. Officials said besides Pampore in south Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, curfew was extended to Tral in Pulwama, Ganderbal, Beerwah in Budgam and Baramulla districts while restrictions on assembly of people remained in force in rest of the Valley. Shehar-e-Khas (SeK), downtown and Batmaloo area in the summer capital, Srinagar, and Anantnag town continued to reel under curfew from the last 37 days while restrictions are in force elsewhere in the major towns and tehsil headquarters in the Valley.
