Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 14: Giving a breather to former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, the senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad is learnt to have conveyed to his loyalists in State Congress not to completely disregard the former from their camp.
However, at the same time, it has also been maintained that Tara Chand should remain limited to his Assembly constituency, Khour only, sources told Early Times.
They said that the fresh direction from the top boss is likely to clear confusion among a section of Azad loyalists, who were finding it difficult to understand the signals emanating from their mentor during the past couple of days, particularly since purported denial of an appointment to Tara Chand for a meeting at New Delhi.
It may be recalled that Ghulam Nabi Azad had recently refused to meet Tara Chand who kept on waiting for an appointment for a week in New Delhi.
The development led to the dissident camp in State Congress led by by Jugal Kishore Sharma writing off Tara Chand.
The former Dy CM was punished for becoming too close to JKPCC president G A Mir, sources added.
Jugal is considered to be closest of Azad and the later is believed to share all information with the former for further communication to other members. Since the main objective of dissident camp is to ensure adjustment of their members in the district bodies as well as PCC after its expansion, the new diktat on Tara Chand had confused a section of the group seeking clarification over the reasons for the same.
However, ending all speculations and confusion, sources said that Azad has now indirectly conveyed to the camp that Tara Chand should be cut into size but not completely ousted from the group as it would only strengthen G A Mir. "He ( Tara Chand) is the only potential candidate in Khour and hence the party cannot ignore him but he should also not be projected as leader of the camp," sources quoted Azad as having said.
