Early Times Report

rajouri, Aug 16: Pahari youth action committee leader Satpal Singh & Naresh Kumar organised convention at Kalakote. Large number of youth participated in the convention in which all participants expressed their full coincidence in the leadership of Muzzaffar Hussain Beigh chief patron of Pahari cultural and welfare forum.
The participants also thanked the coalition for recommending centre for ST status long pending demand of Hindus, Muslim and Sikh of Peer Panchal region.
While Shahbaz Khan appealed Pahari youth to come forward & launch peaceful struggle against the discrimination meted out to them since last more than 30 years.
Khan said that where there is resistance there is existence and where there is life struggle is the sole means to achieve the goal in order to spearhead the ongoing movement in the supreme leadership of Muzzaffar Beigh. He said youth is the ray of hope who have got the potential strength to give the right direction to the movement because Pahari youth is the worst victim in the present age. In order to provide guaranteed future to the most dejected and frustrated youth it is inevitable for the state and center to pay their immediate attention to this aspect without wasting more time and they must grant ST status to the Pahari community. Shahbaz Khan, said 'it's since long that we have been struggling for the ST status, SL Bhat report ,justice Sageer commission report interlocutors' report also is in their favor and five times the cabinet decision has been in their favor as J&K high court has also strongly recommended center for ST status to Paharies but yet nothing has happened which is a hurting'. He further added that it is not that the Government has not done anything for them. Paharis have a nomadic character and maximum population thrives on rearing of cattle. So keeping this in view, mobile schools have been sanctioned. Some facilities have been provided to the Pahari speaking students as other classes have been given. There is reservation for them in Educational/Medical/Technical institutions. Our insistence is on the fact that we should be given our share in paramilitary forces and State Recruitment Boards.
According to the census conducted by Jammu and Kashmir cultural and welfare forum, Paharis constitute the second largest population of the state which comes around to 24 percent and 25.5 Lakh people. Terming Pahari community more nomadic than Gujjars, Chairman of J&K Pahari People movement has said that central government should respect the state Legislative Assembly by responding the resolution passed by it and referred to the Center for granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to Paharies by the house few years ago.
