Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 16: Bringing disrespect to Khakhi, a police officer 'illegally' detained and abused women without registering any case, in complete departure from the laid regulations.
As per the allegations, SHO, Bishnah, Inspector Paramjeet Singh illegally detained four members of a family including Sushma Rani, Rajni Kumar, Geeta Devi and their brother in law, an eighty years old man, Bihari Lal, all resident of Chak Mian Sahib Singh, on July 22, 2016. Victim alleged that they were illegally detained and abused by drunken policemen during the night of their detention.
"Several Police men head by SHO and revenue officials including Naib Tehsildar Bishnah Manohar Lal and Patwari Pankaj Kumar barged into our home on evening of July 22", said Sushma, 45, narrating her ordeal. "They dragged us out of our house and forcibly put in vehicles", she said, adding that police men started misbehaving with them, when they reached police station.
"They put us behind the bars without any reason. Meanwhile, the SHO, who was also drunken directed his men to misbehave with us, however a live electric wire saved us from the clutches of drunken police men, who entered the cell where we were detained, as we threatened to kill ourselves if they touched us", she added.
"They abused us all this while and allowed us to leave police station by 3 a.m. on July 23", said Sushma, whose husband and son were working outside the state. "My younger son, who is a mental patient, was left unattended", said the helpless mother, who begged before the SHO for mercy.
She urged upon the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti to take stern action against erring cops so that modesty of women could be saved.
Paradoxically, despite intervention of IGP Jammu the influential SHO went scot free. "Please find enclosed herewith copy of complaint lodged by Bihari Lal son of Kaka Ram, contents of which are self explanatory", official communiqué addressed by Staff Officer, Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone to SSP Jammu read.
When contacted, SHO Bihsnah, Paramjeet Singh denying the allegations said that they were arrested and released on bail. "All persons including women were arrested under section 107, 151 RPC and were released on by bail given by Tehsildar Bishnah", he added.
SSP, Jammu, Sunil Gupta, when contacted said that SP Headquarter has been asked to conduct enquiry into the matter.
"Communiqué from, IGP office was received on July 25 and on next day i.e. July 26 the SP Headquarter was asked to conduct an enquiry", Gupta said, adding that enquiry officer would submit his report soon.
