The challan was present against Venkata Krishna Modegula and Sandeep Rana. The CB claims to have recovered over Rs 1 cr from their possession so far. CJM Sunit Gupta, after perusal of the challan and hearing the CB IO, committed the case to sessions court.
As per the CB investigation, the complainant had been duped of a huge amount of money by the accused for the purchase of Rice Puller. The accused included Venkata Krishna Modegula, D Balasubranayam Tirupati, Gowhar Hussain Rather, Afroz Ahmed Khan, Mushtaq Ahmed, Sohail Ahmed Khan, Imtiaz Ahmed Khan, Bilqees Mir, Mohammad Maqbool Dar, Irfan Ul Hamid, Sheikh Irshad, Mohammad Ishtiaq Lone, Syed Gulzar Ahmed, Abdul Rashid Malik, Manoj Kalsi, Balbir Singh, Parvez Ahmed Bakarwal, Tahir Bakerwal, B Ramakrishna, Raju Kumar Singh, Ajay Saini and Ashok Tak.
The complainant had allegedly transferred a huge sum of money to the accused through RTGs from different banks and through cash for the purchase of Rice puller. However, the accused took Rs 7.99 cr from the complainant and cheated him.
The CB probe revealed that accused Sandeep Singh Rana, Gulzar Ahmed and others met the complainant, a leading J&K businessman, and apprised him the presence of an ancient object commonly known as Rice Puller (Copper Iridium) and explained its magical and spiritual benefits of turning into a multi-millionaire and powerful person overnight and also assured its genuineness and certification through 'world renowned' scientist Venkata Krishna Modegula, son of Sai Siva Rama of Padma Rao Nagar, Secundrabad, Hyderabad. The complainant was told that Modegula had a vast experience in dealing with such things and was affiliated with ISRO and NASA. Modegula impersonating as a great scientist, explained to the complainant his worldwide recognition in dealing with the heavenly objects and also provided specifications and photographs of precious objects including the methods of their packing and handling and in the process took Rs 3,39,95,000 from him through bank transactions and cash.
The investigation revealed that Modegula was not a scientist and was not even remotely connected with ISRO or NASA. He was a simple management graduate who had no work to do but had got registered a fake company under the name and style Meteoroid Commercial Pvt Ltd, Durgaguri, New Darjeeling Morh, Ratanlal Brahmin Road, Siliguri, West Bengal, and used to allure gullible persons by cheating them with his associates by providing them his visiting cards and fake assurances on his letter heads. Even in the instant case an agreement was executed by him with the complainant, explaining the details of Rice Puller alongwith its properties. He had put its cost in the international market at Rs fifty thousand crore per inch.
Modegula told his interrogators that he had transferred Rs 15 to 16 lakh in the account of his associate Sandeep Singh Rana, son of Naseeb Singh of Paryot, Doda (at present Toph Sherkhania) as his share. He was arrested on May 9, 2016.
Two mobile phones, a gold ring, two wrist watches, a Ford Fiesta car (JKO2AX/0582), one pistol along with its two magazines and seven live cartridges and an arms license were recovered from him and seized. An amount of Rs 1.5 lakh was also recovered from him. (JNF)
