Srinagar, Sept 21: The ongoing unrest that left around ninety people dead and thousands injured has also hit Dal sanitization and repairing of damaged roads as the authorities after every uprising forget to focus on civil works.
From Srinagar which is the summer capital of the state to South Kashmir's Qazigund, damaged roads and dilapidated footpaths depict the sorry tale of authority's slack approach while sanitization of picturesque Dal Lake which has been stopped over the past two months has changed the real perception of visitors most preferred place.
Authorities much before unrest made repeated promises to the people that the damaged roads will be repaired while macadamization process will be finished till December 2015, however nothing substantial has been done in this regard.
It's worth mentioning that the road leading to historic Mughal gardens including Nishat and Shalimar is in bad condition as the same has developed deep potholes while as the 'Babus' who use to drive along Dal lake to reach SKICC and other places seems to be least bothered with regards repairing.
Besides, the vital Shalimar linking road which connects Foreshore Road is speaking volumes about the slipshod approach of the government.
The one kilometer stretch besides having risky potholes has become vulnerable for even pedestrians to walk on not to talk of plying vehicles.
The macadamization of this road was done some five years back and ever since government did not bothered to spend a single penny on it except for hollow promises vis-à-vis its renovation.
The locals living around Shalimar Link Road alleged the government of turning a blind eye towards the depilated condition of this vital road link.
"After 2014 floods this road became vulnerable for traffic movement as the deep potholes spreading around a half kilometer from both sides not only poses threat of serious accident but also resulted in irksome traffic jamming," Lateef Ahmad Mir a local said.
The situation of roads in old city and some uptown localities are no different as the same are yet see macadamization despite promises by the government during elections.
"Roads are in bad conditions, while the present situation in Kashmir has made them even ugly, as the barricades placed by security forces and youth to block public movement and stone pelting on regular basis have damaged roads to huge extent, it will take years to get repaired," Sadiq Ali a resident of Channapora said.
Pertinent to mention that Early Times was the first to report about pathetic condition Dal Lake as LAWDA authorities have stopped its sanitization which has turned it yellow and emanating pungent smell.
The report was published in July and the authorities few days after its publication started machinery for dweeding of Dal, however the work was again stooped that worsened the situation.
