Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 21: In violation of transfer policy of state government, a doctor overstaying in Primary Health Center (PHC) Lakhanpur for the last more than ten years, has allegedly been repeatedly misbehaving with the patients, boasting his superiority of medical education over illiterate and medically illiterate populace of the area.
Moreover, in violation of Medical Council of India (MCI) norms, coupled with the guidelines issued by state health department, this doctor has been found recommending names of particular companies, rather than the salts in bold letters, signaling towards alleged nexus between chemist supply shops and doctor.
Locals of Lakhanpur informed Early Times that for the last more than 10 years, Dr. Amit and his wife have been staying in Lakhanpur PHC due to strong patronage from some officials in Directorate of Health.
Moreover, the PHC Lakhanpur is catering more than two dozen adjoining villages of Lakhanpur, wherein large number of illiterate populace resides. Though the economically rich families, preferred private hospitals, the gullible poor families often visit PHC Lakhanpur for treatment and the doctor has often been found misbehaving with the gullible masses, brag his professional studies.
Few days back, when a school teacher along with his old age mother visited PHC, the doctor allegedly again misbehaved. "After checkup, when I asked about the ailment, instead of simple explanation about the ailment typhoid, in arrogant tone, Dr. Anil said, "I studied for nearly 10 years and got MBBS degree and how I can inform you immediately", the victim patient said, adding that the doctor allegedly, strongly snub and humiliate him, instead of fact that he was feeling very weakness.
He further alleged that the arrogant doctor didn't spare his septuagenarian illiterate mother and said, "I am literate and you are illiterate, how I explain you", the doctor snubbed and humiliated my mother in front of several other patients."
As per the medical prescription written by Dr. Amit on the receipt of patient, , a name of company "Cefbact-T" was written, which is reportedly produced by CIPLA company rather than the salt name in bold letters, which is in violation of MCI guidelines and repeated directions of State Health department to prescribe salts in bold letters, rather than company names.
"Five injections were suggested by the doctor, cost of which was Rs. 60 each", the patient informed, adding that some people in the hospital said, "You (patient) have to take a total of 10 injections and you will be automatically cured after spending Rs. 600."
Sources alleged that as per the general system set up by pharmaceutical company representatives, a doctor got 30 percent commission from the medicine suppliers and made fortunes by prescribing excessive medicines to gullible patients.
Moreover, a brief enquiry found that the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation Limited (JKMSCL) supplied Ceftrixon injection free of cost to every hospital, which can be administered instead of Cefbact-T.
Block Medical Officer Nagri Parole Dr. Vijay Bali informed that for the month of September, 2016, 20 Ceftrixon vile of 1gm quantity, 100 vile of 250 mg quantity have been supplied to PHC Lakhanpur, which were meant for free supply to patients.
But surprisingly, when Dr. Amit was contacted, he reduced the medical supply figure to 15 vile, in contradiction to version of BMO Parole, who informed about 20 vile supply to PHC Lakhanpur.
When asked whether misbehave with patients was acceptable as per the professional ethics, Dr. Amit said that the patient had already taken treatment from a chemist before coming to PHC and the behavior depend on the circumstances in the hospital, where huge number of patients visited routinely.
Over the allegations of commission from the medicine supply companies, Dr. Amit said that from his personal pocket he has been giving free medicines to many poor patients and these allegations were only to defame him.
Over the allegation of overstay in PHC for the last one decade, Dr. Amit said that he was in PHC for the last nearly 11 years and was not in PHC by his choice and was ready to go anywhere if transferred.
