Telecast of news, interviews by local channels banned in Rajouri | | | Rajouri, Sept 21: Apprehending the break out of fresh tension after the statements and interviews of some political and religious leaders on local news channels, the District Magistrate, Rajouri, on the recommendation of SSP, has banned the telecast of news on three local channels operational in Rajouri district. After the lifting of day curfew from Rajouri municipal areas, interviews of some political and religious leaders were telecast by J&K Channel, Right Channel and Take-1 channel. "After watching these interviews, which had potential to create hate , enmity among the members of both the communities and may lead to further law and order problem , it was decided to ban the telecast of local news for the time being," said a senior police officer. On September 14, communal tension had gripped the town after misunderstanding over the identity of an animal sacrificed on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, forcing the administration to impose curfew. To maintain peace and communal harmony in the town, district magistrate Shabir Ahmed Bhat vide his office order No 2156-79 of September 21, 2016 has banned the telecast of local news, interviews under section 14 of CrPC and section 11 of Cable Television Network (Regulation Act 1995) till further orders. |
