KVK, Poonch organises vocational training | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 17: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Poonch under the patronage of Directorate of Extension, SKUAST, Jammu, conducted one week vocational training programme on processing of fruits and vegetables at fruit preservation and canning unit, Poonch. According to press release, a total number of 30 participants from different villages of district Poonch attended the training programme. The welcome address was given by the Sr. Scientist & Head, Dr Ajay Gupta, Scientist Agronomy, KVK, Poonch. Thereafter a lecture was given by Dr Muzafar Mir Scientist, Horticulture, KVK, Poonch, on processing of fruits and vegetables to prevent post harvest loses. As in this area varieties of fruits and vegetables are available during seasons but people are not aware or are lacking knowledge in proper storage, processing and preservation technique. Therefore, large amount of fruits and vegetables are usually sold in local market during season and become scarcity during off season. During the one week training programme, the lectures were given on processing and preservation of vegetables and the uses of different preservatives in correct amount and proportion to the products. They have also decided to start small business at home with the available fruits and vegetables they have or cultivated in their garden in order to increase their income and support their family budget.
