Jammu, Nov 17: Proposal to seek funds to set up State Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani (ASU) drug testing laboratory here is gathering dust for the past two years as central and state government have not paid any heed towards this project. Sources told Early Times the ASU drug testing lab for Jammu was sanctioned by union government and Rs 1.5 crore were released for it. However, the sanctioned amount was not sufficient to set up the laboratory and it ended with only building for the lab being constructed. "For purchasing equipments and creation 0f posts for this lab, the officials approached both central and state governments and also forwarded proposal to seek release of funds but none of the governments took the proposal seriously. And its gathering dust for the past two years," sources added. They said government purchases Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani medicines in crores every year but there is no laboratory in the state to check the samples of these medicines. "If state has, its own ASU drug testing & research laboratory it would help to generate employment and revenue," they added. "The proposed laboratory could have carried out statutory testing and analysis of Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani (ASU) drugs, besides conducting various research and development work on Ayurveda drugs," sources said. They said the central government continuously releases funds for promotion and cultivation of medicinal plants across state but it goes in vain as state government seems least interested in promoting Ayurveda.
